Colleagues,

Please see the invitation below from Ruth Roach for the Author@Compton event and other African American History month activities:

Please join us at the Author @ Compton event-- featuring Robert Lee Johnson of Images of America: Compton-- a bit under a week away on TuesdayFebruary 25, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. in the Compton Student Lounge with refreshments! In the dedication of his relevant book, he explains that he is the son of Robert Lee Johnson, Sr. and Gaynelle E. Cardenas. He plans to do a presentation with photography from the book. A flyer is attached.

This year, the author presentation is part of the broader "Salute to Black Authors" on our campus' Black History Month calendar, and members of the campus community might be interested in the following additional dates and times when authors will be in the Compton Student Lounge for the Book Fair with their work to sell to students, faculty, and staff:

*Stan Allotey-- Feb. 26, 10:30 a.m.
*Mercedes Tidmone-Brown-- Feb. 25, 26, 27, from 12-3 p.m.
*Sandra Coleman-- Feb. 25, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; Feb. 26, 2 p.m.; Feb. 27, 11 a.m.
*Peggy Freeman-- Feb 25, 12-3 p.m.; Feb. 26, 11-2; Feb. 27, 11-2 p.m.
*Ercell Hoffman-- Feb. 25, 12 noon
*Robyn McGee--Feb. 26, 12 noon (and Feb. 27 tentatively)
*Hiram Sims-- Feb. 26, 12-2 p.m.
*Claudena Wesley-- Feb. 25, 12-3; Feb. 26, 11-3; Feb. 27, 11-2

More authors may also participate, so anyone can visit the Compton Student Lounge on those three days, and an author might be there.

Additionally, the book giveaway for students organized by Dr. Lyles for which the campus community has so generously donated books will be ongoing during the three days of the Book Fair (February 25, 26, and 27 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.), on a "first come, first served" basis (one book per student)!

Thank you.

Ruth Roach, English Dept.
