CCCFE AFFIRMS VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN STATE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE
COMPTON, Calif. – The Compton Community College Federation of Employees (CCCFE), Local 3486, held a Vote of No Confidence in the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office on May 20, 2019. In Solidarity with Faculty Association of California Community Colleges (FACCC) and the California Federation of Teachers (CFT), the Compton Faculty Federation affirmed a resolution of No Confidence in Chancellor Eloy Oakley.

The CCCFE agrees FACCC, CFT, and over a dozen other California Community Colleges that Chancellor Oakley created the Student Centered Funding Formula (SCFF) by organizing a task force of CEOs to seek proposals and ideas from which faculty were excluded. We believe that shared governance has ceased to function at the state level. Chancellor Oakley has closed the channels of communication and failed to consult with constituents concerning the SCFF. Initiatives introduced without the input of faculty include: AB 19, Guided Pathways, mandating the implementation of AB 705, and allowing the creation of the Online Community College, Cal Bright.

“At Compton College, 76% of students attend part-time. They work, take care of their families, and have life-responsibilities outside their education. Many of them also come to us academically under-prepared so they take longer to finish,” According to Holly Schumacher, President of CCCFE, Local 3486. “I tried to impress this upon Chancellor Oakley personally last fall when he came to our campus for a listening tour. His response was that we should make all students go full-time. As a faculty member, I care about student success and I would never force that on our students.’”

The CCCFE faculty strive to provide quality instruction and student services to all students, but Chancellor Oakley has created barriers for our institution and has violated state mandated shared governance between local academic senates, local faculty bargaining units, and the community.  Therefore, the CCCFE has resolved that the Compton College Faculty have No Confidence in the leadership of Chancellor Eloy Oakley.
