Status of LBCC Voc Tech & Fine Arts Programs

As of this year, there is a distinct possibility that Long Beach City College will cut a number of programs, specifically at the Pacific Coast Campus.  This means Program Discontinuance.  If done, it will probably take at least 10 years to restore any of them for students.  The programs are the following:  Air Conditioning; Auto Mechanics; Auto Body; Aviation Maintenance; Carpentry; Computer Proficiency for Academic Success (CPAS); Diagnostic Medical Imaging (DMI); Diesel Mechanics; Film; Human Services (Alcohol/Drug); Interior Design; Medical Assisting; Photography; Physical Geography; Radio/TV; Recording Arts; Real Estate; Sheet Metal; and Welding.

It is very clear that the budget cuts have impacted nearby campuses in a much more severe manner.  We should count ourselves fortunate.  It is even more clear that Proposition 30 needs to pass in order to stop the academic bleeding.
