CFT AFT Convention notes

Generally, the tone of the Convention is less strident than last year.  With the shaping of Wisconsin's right to work legislation and the privatization creep in education as a whole, there are still voices of concern.  Betty Yee did bring up the discussion about CALPERS and STRS funding.  There is a threat to our defined benefits retirement, given that the private sector all but eliminated it in favor of less stable models.

It is also clear that there are increased costs to the healthcare will have an impact on future budgets.  To avoid potential penalties, some Districts may cut services but charge the same.

What is not well known is that "some" healthcare plan brokers often have other profit income streams that are often undisclosed.

This is a point of concern for the Union, and we will continue to investigate what is causing our costs to go up besides the usual talking points that the District uses.  Some of the points are obviously coached

As speculated, CCSF vs ACCJC was an agenda item.

During Community College Council, there was much discussion about Compton College, which was funny.  Prior to all the ACCJC fight with CCSF, we've often felt like the prodigal child.
