CFT's Statement in regards to Vergara Case

The CFT/AFT responded to the results of the Vergara case.  Although it doesn't directly affect the California Community College faculty, we can read between the legal lines.  A number of points that they bring up: 

1. Ignores the problems of public education.

2. Stripping teachers of their workplace professional rights will harm, not improve, student learning

3. This attack on the teaching profession will make it harder to attract and retain quality teachers

4. “Tenure” protects academic freedom

5. Seniority is transparent and fair, and not the reason why layoffs occur

6. The wealthy backers of this suit are not pro-public education; they are anti-union
